Remember This, Be Scared

Just want to make sure no person forgets.
Barney Frank and his Senate counterpart Christopher Dodd, emphatically said there could be no housing collapse because people need and live in their houses. Well look around boys, excess capcity was what we got followed by the defaults of both developers and homeowners.
These politicians are the same ones that want to build us a health care program. Barney Frank, in this clip, is proven to be wrong. They say this is in our best interest, but it is really only the pusuit of buying the votes.
Resist all government growth, starve the beast.

The Bonfire

This book The Bonfire: The Siege and Burning of Atlanta, was not very long but it took me about a month to read. Written by Marc Wortman, and published in August of this year The book has a length of 464 pages, which includes many pictures and references.

The story starts with the birth of Atlanta, growing out of the Cherokee nation in Georgia, becoming a center of growth based on being a railroad center and having a business first culture amongst the merchantile class. As the city was becoming established the political Calhoun family took root, related to the Calhoun's of South Carolina and Alabama leaderhip. The Georgia Calhoun's were against secession, but like many southerns, paid allegience to their state.

On the military side, the story focuses on Sherman's vistories in Tennessee at Chatanooga and then down to Atlanta from the northwest. Like Kessesaw Mountain in Marietta, Atlanta was well fortified but undermanned and out generaled. Atlanta was shelled for weeks, the CSA army bounced from corner to corner in the city in an attempt to make their forces appear larger, but Sherman's Army of Tennessee was not going to stop and the CSA finally retreated from the city. On entering the city Sherman made the decision to evacuate all citizens, then as he made preparations for the march to Macon uncontrolled northern soldiers burned many of the buildings to the ground.

This book has many glowing reports in the media. I like they enjoyed the book and recommend for those who enjoy the dryness of historial works.  Within were references to families which are still present on Atlanta's west side.

PETA Advertisement Fail to Save Turkeys in Savannah

Not that anybody listens to PETA anyhow.
Linked article is a short description of how four NBC affiliates declined to show a PETA television advertisement during morning parade shows Thanksgiving day.  If you run the add on Thursday morning of Thanksgiving, the turkeys are already dead and in the oven.  The only purpose PETA has here is to create family disturbances, arguments over the meal.
As far as I am concerned, and have already said, PETA is an extension of liberal self loathing.  Because these ineffectual people are not happy with themselves, in looking for a place to assign their depression, choose to align their spirit and efforts with animals the have no hope of surviving the butcher knife.  They are raised to be eaten as meat, protein.  Get over it.
Thanks to the affiliates who have the good common sense not to show the crap.
Question, if Savannah NBC declines to run this, and I am watching the parades on Atlanta NBC, does that mean my son is going pitch a fit over Thanksgiving dinner?  The answer is no, my son is not a panty waste.

Michelle Obama's Big Earings

This ought to make the wife vomit.
It was apparent after the presidential election that media fawning over the President was going to cover Michelle.  Immediately there were comparisons of this regime to the Kennedy's self-styled Camelot.  Within that expectation of a magical situation, comparisons of Michelle Obama's appearance were and continue to be made to Jackie Kennedy.  My bride spent thirty years teaching clothing in public schools, she has a fervent opinion that Michelle Obama does not know how to dress herself.  I try not to pay too much attention to all that clothing crap, but her appraisal points out that the first lady shows too much shoulder, shows too much arm and wears too many wide belts.  She looks like a person trying to draw attention away from her big frame.

So here was have an Associated Press article that kisses that bottom from start to finish.  The articles tells us how wonderful she is to wear a gown with bangles and big earings that invokes Indian attire.  The story goes on to say...
The nice thing about it is the Jackie Kennedy sort of appropriateness.
Earlier I said that this would irritate my wife, but now I'm there too.  This is ass kissing, done inevitably because the reporter was born with a Democratic pucker.

Here is a link to the story found in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

By the way, there was a History channel special on this past weekend.  In that Jackie Kennedy was quoted as admitting she had overdone the Camelot yarn. Spin that's all it was, the result of which she spent the rest of her life trying to evade.

UGA vs. GT Emulates Apple Advertisement

I have said it before, the Apple advertisements where they treat the PC guy as a dolt really piss me off. Apple missed the boat when it came to apps for engineering and have always, always, taken this snottier than thou approach.

For that reason I am at an odd place, the following parody I do enjoy. Does that make me as Georgia Tech alum snottier than thou?

Probably.

Kevin Williamson: War Is the Health of the Taxman

This dovetails with what I firmly believe. Like the old saying "starve a cold", citizens should resist all forms of taxation. Our government should not only account for its spending, which now does in both misleading and dishonest application, but it should apply an efficiency evaluation of that money spent. To repeat more simply, the government should report on the effectiveness of revenues spent. This would mean that goals have to be stated, e.g., goal = $. As it is, the government measures effetiveness only by how much money is expended. In that mode, the more money spent the better. How can that be in the best interest of the citizens from whom the money was taken?

When new taxes are introduced it is extremely difficult to uproot them. Our income is siphoned by the government, it is redistributed in a less efficient way than would be employed by the individual. This is done under the threat of imprisonment for failure to comply.

An enjoyable email sent to me by PJMS.  It's doubtful the this can be confirmed, but I am going to try.
We in the south, will shoot you.
I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.
Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.
The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).
In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you .... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.
Have a good day!
Thoughtfully yours,

Union Chief to Quit After Attempting to Block Eagle Scout Project

These teen aged boys struggle to find projects that are worthy of the highest acheivement in the Boy Scouts. Having sucessfully pitched the project to the department and investing over 200 hours shows a effort that is exemplary.

The union chief's agressive behaviour is not unlike that which I have experienced in industry. There are union men that place more value on maintenance of head counts than the work at hand.

That said, nobody wishes to see another person unemployed.

We'll End Up a' Sittin' on a Rainbow

Yesterday on the way to work I heard this song on Sirius's "Roadhouse". The lyrics are unique to say the least. A John Prine written song, about a couple if love, sung with Iris Dement called "In Spite of Ourselves".

Here are the lyrics, robbed from Cowboy Lyrics.com.

In Spite of Ourselves

She don't like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny
She's my baby I'm her honey
I'm never gonna let her go

He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies
He ain't too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it's oxygen
He's my baby
And I'm his honey
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin'
And keeps on tickin'
I'm never gonna let her go.

He's got more balls than a big brass monkey
He's a wacked out werido and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon
He's my baby I don't mean maybe
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

(spoken) In spite of ourselves

Have always considered Prine to be an excellent singer songwriter who has received little acclaim. Very much enjoyed his work with the Cowboy Junkies.

In my industry we often do not have the benefit of OEM drawings, yet are asked to make off the cuff analysis on modes of failure. With this program you can sketch on the fly, apply dimensions and material and viola you have stress concetations.

Coweta man, 81, tries to set 35-year-old girlfriend on fire

This is rich. You can almost picture the toothless letch chasing his incestuous granddaughter, scooting a walker, dragging a gas can and looking for his Bic lighter.

Sometimes, living in Georgia makes me so proud.

Government feeds it own inertia. The only way to stymie its growth is to take away the money. Furthermore the Federal practice of extending national debt must be regulated, presumably by a Constitutional amendment. Take away the money stream and with it the temptation to use income redistribution as a social equalization tool.

Social Security, Medicaid and welfare programs of the last 45 years have proven that cost expansion cannot be controlled and the target citizens as a class not effectively raised.

There will always be have and have-nots in a system where productivity is rewarded. The socialistic objective to level economic differences succeeds only when the economic level is at the lowest common denominator. Socialism is like friction to capitalism.

I am a FairTax advocate, and while deficiencies in that are present, the effect in its implementation is a fiscal reboot. A reboot that would require demonstrable causality for installation of spending programs.

The following is a good post that describes how stimulus money is being used to fund studies that hypothesize new methods of taxation. Like taxes on cigarettes, the Federal government is seeking another revenue stream, under the auspice of making fattening foods more difficult to purchase.

Some Things Never Change

Like the song by what his face.

Archie Bunker tells Dingbat how it is, more than thirty years ago. Surprising how this Lear situation comedy in picking on the beleaguered Jimmy Carter, Archie accurately describes the Democratic Party of today.

A great show. My favorite episode was the one where Archie is telling Meathead where to go for his honeymoon.
You should go to Disneyworld. You can take care of the honeymoon stuff in the hotel and then go outside and have some real fun.

Alice

Another Woody Allen movie, released in January 1991. It took me weeks to get around to watching. Perhaps I should close the dvd rental account.

The movie is about Alice Tate finds, mother who is getting bored with her life and is looking for an inspiration to give he life meaning. In this search Alice has found comfort in creature comforts, clothes, makeup and home decorating. This is not enough, there is no happiness in these objects. A friend suggests that Alice visit a doctor in Chinatown. Dr. Yang has wisdom and an insight to what Alice needs, by way of a couple of visits, Dr. Yang precribes various hebs and spices that awaken Alice's spirit and moreso open her eyes to her own drudgery.

In this awakening Alice begins an affair with a handsome saxaphone player. This leads her to question her husbands attention to marriage, the man who projected himself as a dullard at him was in fact a beast with the ladies of the office.

In discovery of her husband, she turns to Joe the sax player. Unfortunately Joe has decided to persue his ex for he has discovered she regretted starting the divorce.

Alice, now alone, decides to travel to Calcutta, work with MOther Theresa and do good. Risks be damned. Then she came home and set up a simple life with her children. She was happy.

The actors were....
  • Mia Farrow as Alice Tate, Woody's female lead and real life girlfriend.
  • Alec Baldwin as Ed, the ghost of Alice's dad lover.
  • Blythe Danner as Dorothy, Alice's sister and lawyer.
  • Judy Davis as Vicki.
  • William Hurt as Doug Tate, Alice's cheating husband.
  • Keye Luke played Dr. Yang, this was the last role of his career for he died only weeks after this film was released. Luke's movie career started in 1934 and spanned nearly 60 years.  Through the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's the actor was a common guest star on shows like Andy Griffith, Hawaii Five-O, Miami Vice and MASH.  This actor has the best part in the movie.
  • Joe Mantegna as Joe, the sax player.
  • Bernadette Peters as Alice's muse.
  • Cybill Shepherd as Nancy, Alice's sucessful friend.
I give this movie a rating of 36 of 50.  Not bad, not great.
  • Character Development, 7 of 10.  Alice does grow from being a spoiled wife to an independent mother.
  • Screenplay, 7 of 10.  It is not hard to recognize the writing. The Chinese doctor was special.
  • Acting, 8 of 10. Good cast, have always enjoyed William Hurt, in this he is pretty dull.
  • Photography, 6 of 10. Filmed in Manhattan.
  • Plot, 8 of 10.

Suzanne Fields: Deaf Ears, Dumb Voters

A couple of weeks ago I ate dinner with a couple of alumnus fraternity brothers. One of whom is Jewish, both of whom have always been firm liberals. In this visit I brought up the subject of a John Bolton editorial on Israel and its description of the lack of support within the Democratic hierarchy for that country. The response that I got, from a person that I consider to be much smarter than myself, was that John Bolton was an idiot.

In my dumb mind, I don't get it.

It has been obvious, at least to me, the disconnect between Americans of the Jewish faith, staunch Democratic liberals, and party leadership. If Israel is an important issue to them, they are in the wrong camp. From their voting pattern a person could conclude that for American Jews, Israel’s sovereignty carries a lower priority than domestic policy.

Ole Miss song banned over controversial chant

A few years ago OSHA made Georgia Tech reduce the decibels on its steam whistle. This whistle was like that of a mill town, something the whole community becomes accustomed to, grows to love and rely on. But some government sob decided that eardrums might be hurt so precedent and rituals be damned, turn down the volume. Now the whitle sounds like something like a gagged cat having its balls crushed. These are the ways that government makes our life uniform with others, blurring lines of differentiation. If they make everybody the same, then everything they do is fair, no matter how destructive.

Now the school has a new president, his last seat was at the University of Colorado Boulder. Colorado is a fine liberal state school that had to be forced by the state legislature to fire a professor who publicly blamed 911 on us. From what I see of Tech’s new president’s actions, the school’s rich social fraternal tradition is at risk.

In Oxford, a school with rich tradition, and illustrious graduates. A game day tradition is being stripped, one that is not overtly antagonistic or destructive.

ACORN Officials Charged In Nevada

During the last presidential campaign there were many rumors of illegal activities within ACORN.  ACORN is one of the community activist organizations the then candidate Obama was a member.

None of this is proof of any wrong doing by our President, only an indictment of some of his co-workers.

By way of Townhall.com we have the story....
ACORN Pleads Not Guilty in Nevada Election Conspiracy Case
ACORN and former ACORN executive Amy Busefink pleaded not guilty today to illegally paying canvassers to register Nevada voters in the 2008 presidential campaign.
A trial has been set for April 19 of next year. The date may be changed as an attorney reported a scheduling conflict.

Lawyers for ACORN and Busefink say they plan to challenge the constitutionality of the Nevada state law.
The prosecution’s star witness is expected to be former ACORN Las Vegas field director Christopher Edwards. Charged with election fraud by Nevada’s Democratic attorney general, he cut a deal with prosecutors and has pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit the crime of compensation for registration of voters.

It seems true that ACORN was paying for registration productivity, and firing for lack of same.  Guilty pleas are already in place and the subordinates are now testifying against the executives.  The temptation here is to presume that ACORN executives are all of like philosophical mind, therefore all tactily endorse illegal manipulation of voters.

Attached is link to Adobe pdf copy of the Criminal Complaint.

My own opinion on this topic are that ACORN has an "ends justify the means" attitude.  That as being that advocates of the poor, justifies any action that obtains benefits for the poor.  The power derived by those advocates is simply a benefit for doing good deeds, a moral equivalent to Mother Theresa.  Not far off the mark considering the last award.

A view of America from the left

More good work at Missourah.com, titles of recent Newweek magazine covers.

A view of America from the left

They aren't even pretending anymore, the folks are Newsweek that is. A few years ago my mother got me a subscription to Newsweek. Newsweek is a magazine that has good writers, broad coverage and hatred for everything conservative. Its ok, they have an audience, that does not include me. For me it is the National Review, Garden & Gun, Field & Stream and New Yorker for a little balance. During the day the New York Times and the AJC.

You Really Shook Me

Saturday afternoon, the sun was still above the Coke building.
Two Marine pilots, both Georgia Tech alumni, flew their F14's over Grant Field at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
The lower east stands where we sit, shook.

At half-time the pilots were part of the show, they were proud to be there, and we were proud to have them.

I Once Met A Man With No Pants

The title might be from the start of a fairy tale.
Not a kids story!

Man with no pants unrelated to pants with no man: police

In Canada if you catch a man with no pants, its probably summer, at least if he's alive.
If he's dead, he would be easier for the police to arrest.

And what about this dude that breaks into a home, craps all over the place, and leaves, sans pants?
There are some really nasty folks out there.

Gore Vidal Wins Davis Cup

Gore Vidal wins the revitalized Davis Cup for making statements only an asshole is capable of.  In defense of recently imprisoned Roman Polanski, the fat bastard author had this to say...

“Look, am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s been taken advantage of?”
and
“The media can’t get anything straight. Plus, there’s usually an anti-Semitic and anti-fag thing going on with the press – lots of crazy things,” elaborated Vidal. “The idea that this girl was in her communion dress, a little angel all in white, being raped by this awful Jew, Polacko – that’s what people were calling him – well, the story is totally different now from what it was then.”

Let us look more closely at this.
In March 1977 the director Polanski was arrested and charged with offenses against Samantha Geimer, then a girl of thirteen.  In the California grand jury testimony Geimer explained that Polanski gave her a combination of champagne and quaaludes. Also Geimer testified that she made repeated protests and asked to the man stop his assault.  Polanski performed oral sex, intercourse and sodomy upon her.
Polanski plead guilty to engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse a California law equivalent to statutory rape.   Then while undergoing psychiatric evaluation, the molester, fearful of being jailed, escaped to France.  Since he has continued with his directing career.
Samantha Geimer will always be raped.

As a confirmation of the tendency, Wikipedia says...
In 1976, Polanski started a romantic relationship with Nastassja Kinski, when she was 15 years old and he was 43 years old. In 1979, their relationship ended at the completion of filming Polanski's Oscar nominated "Tess", in which Kinski had played the lead role.
This is an acknowledged relationship, Kinski is German, so it probably wasn't illegal, but it sure is not right.

So, back to Vidal.  A crime is committed, the perpetrator pleads guilty then evades penalty by fleeing the country and remaining in exile for over thiry years.  After persistent law enforcement efforts the weasle is apprehended and now faces additional punishment.  Who does the writer go after, media, law enforcement and the victim.

Polanski deserves to do time, and be raped in prison until he dies of infection of the anus.

Vidal should be repudiated by all for being an ass.
  • For those of you familiar with GOPU, the Davis Cup title is named for the classically inappropriate Rob V. Davis.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
