Upcoming Congressional Bills

Recent Senate Votes:
Cloture Motion; Paying a Fair Share Act of 2012
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=65&chamber=S&congress=1122
Vote Rejected (51-45, 4 Not Voting)
The Senate failed to reach the sixty vote threshold needed to move forward on this bill to raise tax rates on taxpayers earning more than $1 million.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted NO
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted NO
More from the assault on the earning class.  I am a little surprised that Harry couldn't ram this one through, perhaps some on his own team saw through the b-s.  On second thought, they probably all saw through the b-s, and saw the vote as a Democratic election spin topic.

Recent House Votes:
Sportsmen's Heritage Act of 2012
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=164&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Passed (274-146, 11 Not Voting)
This bill would codify the use of public lands for recreational hunting, shooting and fishing unless the Bureau of Land Management or the Forest Service determines it is necessary to prohibit those activities. The Senate is unlikely to take up the measure.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
I wonder of Scalia took Kagen hunting on public land?

Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2012, Part II
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=170&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Passed (293-127, 11 Not Voting)
The House passed this three-month highway and transportation program bill that will serve as the vehicle to negotiate a long-term bill with the Senate. The Senate passed a two-year, $109 billion bill in March. House Republicans would like a five year bill. The current extension runs out June 30, 2012.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
Must be one of those shovel un-ready bills, why else would a Democrat vote against a bill that spends money?

Small Business Tax Cut Act
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=177&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Passed (235-173, 1 Present, 22 Not Voting)
This House bill would give businesses with fewer than 500 employees a 20 percent tax deduction for the 2012 tax year. The bill is unlikely to advance in the Senate.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
Who cares, anymore, how this libtard votes. The Democrats pay a lot of lip service to helping small businesses, but when the rubber hits the road, the Republicans have to be the ones to push the agenda.  The bill will fade to oblivion in the Senate because the Democrats wants to raise taxes in every quadrant of business that isn't green.

Upcoming Votes:
21st Century Postal Service Act of 2012 - S.1789
The Senate is scheduled to work on this bill to overhaul the U.S. Postal Service.
The vote on this actually went through today, and the Senate passed it. They didn't touch the unions and mandated that levels of service be maintained.  This is a perfect example of how fucked up our Federal government is.  We have a service that is supposed to be financially self-sufficient, it has evolved into a employment program detached from any thought of efficiency. In the private world, if a business is run poorly, it fails, it goes bankrupt, the investors loose their capital.
We are not as tax paying citizens properly represented if our elected officials choose to tax us for the purpose of of keeping inefficient unionized labor employed.
Cut them loose, subsidize as needed for minimum requirement, let the rates reflect the cost, and if the rates cannot be competitive, close it down!

Violence Against Women Act - S.1925
The Senate may vote on this bill to renew the Violence Against Women Act.
Don't know about this, but it sounds like more law to affirm unenforced law.

NLRB union election rule - S.J.Res.36
This Senate resolution would disapprove of a National Labor Relations Board rule regarding the timing of union elections.
Sounds like a Republican proposal, likely to go down, I should read up on this.

Cybersecurity Enhancement Act - H.R.2096
This House bill would fund cybersecurity research.
The tail is wagging the dog here. It is rare that such law is ever in front of the problem.

Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act - H.R.3523
This bill would establish procedures for sharing cyber-threat intelligence.
 OK?

HotAirPundit: The Ultimate Election 2012 Graphic

No doubt a calculation that could have been applied to Bush 43 before the current hapless president.
A depressing situation, the government is like a child with Prader-Willi disease.

True Grit

Just for grins we recently rented DVD copy of said movie. Reminds me that my son and I went to see this movie in 2010 at a theater, the first that I've paid for since he was in high school. That was over four years ago. The original is one of my favorite John Wayne movies after the The Quiet Man, The Sons of Katie Elder and the one that is not El Dorado and had drunken Dean Martin in the drunken Robert Mitchum role.
True Grit is the Coen brothers remake of the movie that finally got John Wayne his Oscar. A story of an, all-about-business, teen aged girl whose father was murdered by a vagabond killer. Following up on her father's death she finds that the the local sheriff is unwilling to chase the killer into Indian Territory, she is obliged to to offer a ransom to the Federal Marshal of her choice, a man this time played by Jeff Bridges, selected not because he is the best tracker, not because he is the most humane, but because he gets the job done no matter how tough and dirty it is. Just think about how few of those people live in your life today, or if any, at all, work in government.
Well, just like the original, Mattie gets Rooster to lead the way into the Indian Territory, with Texas Ranger LaBoeuf.  Rooster drinks too much and argues with the Ranger.  Mattie shoots Tom Chaney down at the creek. Mattie gets captured.  Rooster fights it out, one on four, saved in the end by a long shot.  LaBoeuf gets whacked in the head and is unconscious.  Mattie falls into the pit with the snakes and gets bit. Rooster goes into the pit.  The Ranger wakes up and pulls Mattie and Rooster out.  Rooster then kills Little Blackie racing to save her from the rattler bite.
Then the story takes a turn from the original.  First of all Laboeuf live after the two are saved from the pit, it is still the end of the part in the movie.. Twenty five years later, invited by the former marshal,  Mattie goes to visit Rooster for the first time while he is acting in the Wild West Show.  She appears minus one arm, lost to the snake bite, three days after Rooster dies.  Mattie has the coffin dug up and brought to her ranch where she has him buried with her family.  Mattie continues on as a middle aged spinster.
The cast included..
  • Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, not as much fun as John Wayne, but that is the way the directors chose to go.
  • Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross, I think played better and more realistically than Kim Darby.
  • Matt Damon as LaBoeuf , better than Glen Campbell by a long shot.
  • Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney, much better in the role of the simple minded murderer.
  • Barry Pepper as Lucky Ned Pepper, played differently than Duval, more realistically unlikeable.
  • Elizabeth Marvel as 40-Year-Old Mattie, a surprise to me.
This is a in my opinion a stronger cast than was in the original movie. The subject was centered in the dark side of human nature, a more realistic construct to the time and situation.  This made for a better movie, though by no means happier.  I liked it, others must have as well because it was nominated for ten Oscars.

Password

This was sent to me by a co-worker. It reads like somebody forgot to include the dumb blonde....

During a recent password audit by a company, it was found that an employee was using the following password:
"MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofySacramento"
When asked why she had such a long password, she rolled her eyes and said....
"Hello! It has to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital."

Well, DUH!

Calender Fun

I don't really care about this kind of stuff too much, but something that happens every 800 years is worthy of mention.
It does seem to me that with all the months that have 31 days and the only requisite is that the 1st be on a Friday, it would happen more often.
Maybe they mean pertaining only to July.

Snowballs

Hail the size of snowballs is what some people had falling in the Dallas area last week.
A piece of ice that size would leave a bruise on your flesh or a knot on your head.

2011 Annual Report

You can get screwed by foreigners.

You can get screwed by your goverment agencies.

You can get screwed by the debt your government builds.

You can get screwed by the same folks who did the first time.
Every year I get a about dozen annual reports from the pitiful companies I own stock in. One of these is SunTrust which before 2008 was in the 90$+ price range.  When it dropped I doubled up at 10$ and am sitting at break even.  This is the only report that I read, in part because I am looking for how the government is screwing with my investments.  A couple of years ago there was a statement in the report that said we tried to pay back the TARP money, but they would not take it.  Now the debt is paid off and a whole section of the report is dedicated to describing how government policies might affect the volatility of what I own.

Physical

This morning I had my annual physical, the doctor told me that at 224 pounds I was overweight and 10 pounds from being obese.  He is a nice man and I have been going to him for over ten years, but obese seems a little extreme.  The chart says my ideal weight is 195 pounds, that seems a little hopeful, but as divorce proved, is possible.

On the way back to work, the fasting of the last day, steered me right into the local diner.  Coming to senses I got back on the road and onto work without the pancakes I had on my mind.

I am hungry.

MEGAVOTE: April 2, 2012

Congress.org (congress.org) presents: M E G A V O T E,  April 2, 2012

In this MegaVote for Georgia's 13th Congressional District:

Recent Congressional Votes -
* Senate: 21st Century Postal Service Act of 2011
* Senate: Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act
* House: Federal Communications Commission Process Reform Act of 2011
* House: Surface Transportation Extension Act
* House: Democratic Alternative Budget
* House: Fiscal 2013 House Budget Resolution

Editor's Note:
Congress is in recess this week and next. The Senate and House both return on April 16.
Good, that means there will be less time to find ways to waste money.

Recent Senate Votes:

21st Century Postal Service Act of 2011
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=60&chamber=S&congress=1122
Vote Rejected (51-46, 3 Not Voting)
This postal overhaul bill did not receive the necessary 60 votes to proceed to debate. The bill would allow the Postal Service to recoup around $11 billion in over payments to a retirement account and use that money to provide financial incentives to about 100,000 employees to retire, as well as delay the plan to end Saturday delivery for two years.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted NO
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted NO
Senate Democrats voting to extend the status quo for an inefficient system.  An inefficient system that has unionized employees.  Big surprise, bunch of freaking boot lickers.  Good vote men.

Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=63&chamber=S&congress=1122
Vote Rejected (51-47, 2 Not Voting)
This legislation would repeal some tax breaks for large oil and gas companies and use the revenue generated by these tax repeals to pay for an extension of renewable-energy tax credits and incentives. The bill did not receive the necessary 60 votes to end debate and is unlikely to be considered again.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted NO
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted NO
Democrats chasing the new bogeyman with money.  Guys, thanks for voting against this.

Recent House Votes:

Federal Communications Commission Process Reform Act of 2011
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=138&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Passed (247-174, 10 Not Voting)
The House passed this bill that would overhaul Federal Communications Commission regulatory procedures and curb the agencys ability to set conditions on transactions related to corporate mergers and acquisitions. The bills future is uncertain.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
Scott's vote foretells the Senate's action, the Dems don't want the FCC taken down a notch because they want them strong enough to take down some Conservative talk hosts.  That if the circumstances align themselves in favor of.  No, Democrats love bureaucratic regulation.

Surface Transportation Extension Act
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=147&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Passed (266-158, 7 Not Voting)
On Thursday the House passed this bill to extend authorization for surface transportation programs through June 30. The Senate cleared the bill by voice vote later the same day, sending the bill to the president. President Obama signed it the next day. This extension gives the House and Senate more time to negotiate a long-term transportation bill.
Rep. David Scott voted YES
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now an then.
Democratic Alternative Budget
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=150&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Failed (163-262, 6 Not Voting)
The Democrats offered a substitute budget amendment that would provide $1.05 trillion in discretionary spending for fiscal 2013, including $546 billion for defense spending. The amendment includes a permanent extension of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for the middle class, but would end nearly $1 trillion in tax cuts for millionaires and close a variety of corporate tax loopholes. The amendment was rejected.
Rep. David Scott voted YES
Democratic version of the next item, simply an effort to show that they are in the business of passing a budget.  Did you see that inclusion of making the Bush tax cuts permanent?  They knew it had no chance at being passed so they threw it in there to appear open minded.

Fiscal 2013 House Budget Resolution
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=151&chamber=H&congress=1122
Vote Passed (228-191, 12 Not Voting)
The House passed this budget resolution providing for $1.03 trillion in discretionary spending. That amount is $19 billion less than the discretionary target agreed to as part of last summers deal to raise the debt ceiling. The resolution calls for spending cuts through restructuring Medicare, converting Medicaid and the food stamp program into block grants to states, and repealing the 2010 health care law. It also calls for an overhaul of the tax code. The Senate is likely to reject the House budget resolution.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
You can use the Scott vote as a barometer for Senate action, he votes NO and the Senate obstructs.  The Dems are going to pick on Ryan and the Republicans on the budget from here through the election, all the while not passing a single budget since BO took office.

Martin Sheen = Blowhard

Martin Sheen says to the Republicans.....
"keep you hands off of Medicare"

Within the embedded video this libtard says......
the Republicans want to end Medicare, end it all together
An obvious lie.  The new Ryan budget came out this week, another pieces of legislation that the Democratic Senate will obstruct, it does suggest revisions to Medicare not the removal of.  There is a big difference, and Martin knows it, he is attempting to guide the simple minded to the vote he needs.

What an asshole!
